Lupita Nyong’o acusa revista de ‘embranquecer’ suas fotos

A atriz Lupita Nyong’o usou as redes sociais nesta sexta-feira (11) para denunciar o que acredita ser uma manifestação de racismo da revista britânica Grazia, da qual ela foi capa. Segundo ela, suas fotografias tiradas para a publicação passaram por um processo de “embranquecimento” no Photoshop.

“Decepcionada que a Grazia editou e diminui meu cabelo para encaixá-lo em uma noção eurocêntrica do que é um cabelo bonito”, tweetou Lupita, que ostenta seu black power com orgulho nos tapetes vermelhos. A atriz de “Pantera Negra” disse que, se soubesse que haveria edição, não teria aceitado ser modelo de capa da revista.

“Como eu já deixei claro muitas vezes no passado, eu me orgulho da minha herança natural e, apesar de ter crescido achando que pele clara e cabelo liso eram os padrões de beleza, eu agora sei que minha pele escura e meus cabelos grossos e crespos são bonitos também”, afirmou, no Instagram.

O perfil da Grazia UK publicou em seu Twitter um pedido de desculpas oficial para Nyong’o. Segundo a mensagem, não houve nenhum pedido da editoria da revista para que o cabelo da atriz fosse alisado por meio de manipulação de fotos.

As I have made clear so often in the past with every fiber of my being, I embrace my natural heritage and despite having grown up thinking light skin and straight, silky hair were the standards of beauty, I now know that my dark skin and kinky, coily hair are beautiful too. Being featured on the cover of a magazine fulfills me as it is an opportunity to show other dark, kinky-haired people, and particularly our children, that they are beautiful just the way they are. I am disappointed that @graziauk invited me to be on their cover and then edited out and smoothed my hair to fit their notion of what beautiful hair looks like. Had I been consulted, I would have explained that I cannot support or condone the omission of what is my native heritage with the intention that they appreciate that there is still a very long way to go to combat the unconscious prejudice against black women’s complexion, hair style and texture. #dtmh
